"Real" Pickles, Pushups & Purring
It's a busy workday heading into the weekend, so I thought I'd take my break to update the blog.
"Real" Pickles This Time
Of the many things we've planted in our garden this year, we decided to have a go at pickling cucumbers. We've planted cucumbers many years in the past, but very few of them survive the squirrels seeking a bite of hydration.
When growing cucumbers destined for pickling, it's best to harvest them earlier - when they're a bit smaller and not fully juicy yet - as they make better, crispier pickles that way. We've only harvested two so far, but we've got plenty more on the vine and so far, no squirrel destruction.
Two cucumbers were plenty for a small jar of pickles!

This will ferment on our counter for a few weeks. The brine consists of water, pickling salt, "pickle crisp" (calcium chloride), garlic & dill. I can't wait to taste these lil' pickle spears.
Health & Fitness Things
For the past few weeks, I've been doing my best to dial back in to a caloric deficit and get in 304 strength workouts a week. It takes a lot of determination, not to mention waking up at 5am to make the time for working out alongside our other endeavors.
I'd say I'm at about 85% success on both the nutrition and fitness front, so we're doing pretty well. I'm hoping to update my blog as a progress in this journey. I have about 80 pounds left to lose.
Not much else to say, so here's Fiora "helping" me work out earlier this week.

See ya next time.
